I think the underlying idea that Matt has that undercuts his ability to analyze revolutions in science is that there’s a clearcut dichotomy between “modern science” and all past investigations of reality. He seems to be able to place all potential problems with science in the bucket of “non-modern science” and may be dismissed. Modern science and non-modern science are both human beings trying to figure out what kind of reality we live in. The fact that so many institutions now essentially “run” science doesn’t seem to factor into his thinking, when they have so much potential to push the direction of investigation. I think it would be more accurate to call modern science institutionalized science, and that isn’t to imply that it isn’t correct a lot of the time. First time listening to your show, and I found it interesting.
